Seven Pounds

I thought this was a pretty cool story. One I wish that I could fulfill...minus the suicide. The way the main character affected the people in his life was overwhelming at times. It was depressing but not so much that it made me depressed. You have to know going into the movie that it is going to be heavy and just prepare yourself. Many people I talked to that have seen it said they cried but I was not moved to tears. I just remember thinking "how awesome!!"
"The seven people Tim helps are Emily Posa (to whom he gives his heart), Ezra Turner (to whom he gives his eyes), Ben Thomas (to whom he gives his lung), Holly (to whom he gives his right half of his liver), Connie (to whom he gives his house), Nicholas (to whom he donates bone marrow) and George (to whom he donates a kidney to in order to get off of dialysis). Hence the title of the movie is finally revealed: Ben kills seven people, but saves seven lives. He eases the load of guilt he had for the seven lives he took, and got rid of those "seven pounds" by saving seven other lives."

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button

I am on the fence about this film. While the acting was top notch...I am just not sure that I enjoyed the story. Sometimes I am not good with a far fetched plot that I cannot wrap my mind around. The lack of reality bothered me as well as the CGI, Computer Generated Imagery. The movie was pretty and the cinematography enjoyable. Clay and I did find a ton of similarities to Forrest Gump.

Doubt

Well...I was let down by the actual story but the acting was phenomenal. To think of Meryl Streep in Mama Mia and then to see her in this! She is really a great actress. Philip Seymour Hoffman is just great and i have always loved him. He has something creepy that he is working with and always makes his character come to life. Don't bother seeing this in the theater just wait and rent it.

Milk

Wonderful!!! I left with a broken heart but it was well worth it. Nothing like a good docudrama. They are my favorite!

The Boy in the Striped Pajamas

Love WWII Nazi films so this was right up my alley...depressing, scary, and full of military mumbojumbo...along with a "pull at your heart strings" story line. All I can say is the ending is heart stopping.

Zack and Miri Make a Porno

I took one for the team seeing this one...it was Clay's pick. I did enjoy the first half and laughed a lot. The tone of the movie wore on me after a while and I think it would have been a better movie to rent and watch at home. Elizabeth Bank is becoming one of my favorite actresses though! It was funny to see her play Miri after playing Laura Bush in "W".

W.

This movie was super interesting! It was really cool to view the President as a person and see where he came from. I left the movie not really have an difference of opinion but Clay left feeling sorry for George W. Bush. All I can say is that W. is funny and Laura Bush is much more than just a first lady. She is a wife and a mother and I think we forget sometimes that Presidents have families too outside of running the country. Think about how hard it is to keep a family together much less keeping one together and being the in the political spotlight. It takes a certain type of person to handle this type of stress and pressure.

The Secret Life of Bees

What a great movie. I wish I had read the book...I still might. All the acting was spot on and I really enjoyed everything about this movie. Well worth seeing!

Religulous

This is a must see!!!!!!!!! Bill Maher is a genius!!! Even if you are religious this is still a good one to see so that you might be able to answer these questions if ever asked.

The Duchess

Oh how my heart hurt when I left this movie. It was really great and the love story was wonderful but it did not end the way I wanted it to. I guess everything cannot have a happy ending. I love stories like this that are based on true stories but also are relevant to modern life.

Eagle Eye

Not bad, not bad at all. I did bite all my finger nails due to the suspense of the film.

Burn After Reading

Even though I missed the first 20 minutes of this movie it was still great. I obviously did not miss enough to make a difference and was able to figure out what I needed to know. Very whitty and just plain great Coen brothers! Short and sweet too the way I like them!

Transsiberian

Holy moses was this a thrilling movie. I loved it and hated it all at the same time. I hated the anticipation and anxiety that it induced but that is what made it so good!!  The ending was awesome. Needless to say I don't think I will ever ride that train! No thank you. Ben Kingsley was amazing as usual and it was really great to see Woody Harrelson back on the big screen.

Bottle Shock

Well it was a little dry in the middle with a full bodies ending!!! Haha!!! No, it was a pretty good movie. The fact that it is based on a true story is great. You don't have to like wine to appreciate this movie at all!

Vicky Cristina Barcelona

OH man...so who is going to Spain with me and which one of you is bringing the hot guy that is going to seduce us??? Ladies go and see this one just for the romance and the eye candy! Yes I just said eye candy!!

Tropic Thunder

Not that good...Clay loved it but I got board. Maybe if I had not just seen Pineapple Express the day before I might have enjoyed it a little more. It also had some of the same actors in it which made it seem even more of a continuation of slapstick from the day before. I think it is more of a guy movie.

Pineapple Express

Super funny...almost too funny. You laugh so much that you forget what was really funny by the end. A great line up of actors and a new favorite of mine Danny R. McBride.

The Mummy #3

Okay...I do love the Mummy movies but this one was a little cheesier if you will. It also felt more like a martial arts film than anything else. Thanks a lot Jet Li! It's worth seeing but don't have any expectations of it just go to the movie to see it just to go. It was action packed just like the others but they always get the job done unscathed.

Tell No One

Very thrilling in deed. Not a bad movie at all. It did have quite a bit of twists and turns...almost to many. I got lost a little but thankfully they explain it all before the movie ends. The music was very interesting the film. One of my favorite Jeff Buckley songs made a cameo. There was no dialog when a song was played. The music was used to help build emotion in the viewer so you could feel more of what the character was feeling. Very cool. Those French know what they are doing!

CSNY: Deja Vu

Excellent!! The music was great and the political information intriguing.  Toward the end you do start to notice that your head is hanging a little lower and your heart is starting to hurt. The stories of these soldiers and their families starts to get to you. The voices of the four men is just incredible. Clay has suggested I dig up an old record and give it a good listening to! The coolest part in the film was when they came to Atlanta to do their show. It was a shit storm!!!! Neil Boortz and the Regular Guy are both in the film.

Brick Lane

I really enjoyed this film. It was a pretty good story about how unsettling an arranged marriage can be sometimes. The story focuses on the wife and where she came from and how she got to be in this arranged marriage. It them leads you down her path of unhappiness and how she finally stands up for what she really wants.

The Dark Knight

Well it is called the Dark Knight for a good reason...it is a very dark movie. Overall it was a good movie but don't take your young kids to see it. I think it is a little to dark and depressing for the kiddies. There were moments that I actually yelped a little. Clay loved it as did all the other guys I know who have seen it. Heath Ledger did a good job as the Joker in a very creepy way. I found him hard to look at sometimes. It is about two and half hours long and I found that checked my watch several times.

Mamma Mia

Wonderful just wonderful!!! I usually don't care for musicals but this one just hit the spot. The best musical since Grease. The only weakness was Pierce Brosnan and his lack of singing ability. He just did not fit with the rest of the cast. My Mom and I have been singing and dancing around all afternoon!!! I am not an ABBA fan nor I have ever seen Mama Mia the Broadway musical but I now understand why it is such a success.

Hancock

Way better than I ever thought...I was pleasantly surprised. It was not a very long movie so you never really get board or check your watch. There is a great twist in the film that you are not expecting and the ending is good as well.

Hellboy II: The Golden Army

I missed the first say ten minutes of the movie but was able to catch up...never go to Atlantic Station on a rainy Sunday for a last minute movie! It was your average super hero flick with the good guys and bad guys...and the good guys win in the end. There was some symbolism as far as how we regard the fragile nature of our earth...or the fact that we don't regard it at all. I did enjoy the love stories that they wove into this sequel and the costume and make-up are really magnificent.

Journey to the Center of the Earth

Not nearly as bad as the reviews I read lead me to believe...I enjoyed it without the 3D but I bet it is cool! It was entertaining and very family friendly. There were a lot of parts where Heather and I jumped or squealed and plenty of nail biting moments.

The Children of Huang Shi (2008)

What a beautiful movie. I liked it a lot more than I had expected. This true story was an extraordinary journey and was very inspirational. Meyers performance was the only part of the movie that lacked something. This is a must see if you enjoy docudramas and wartime stories.

WALL-E

Oh so very cute. It was a wonderful love story and a great family film. This movie did a great job at sticking it to consumerism that's for sure!! I really enjoyed all the underlying messages that this movie conveyed.

Get Smart

Pretty funny...but kind of boring at some points. Steve Carell was great! If it was not for him I don't think the movie would have done so well.

The Love Guru

I liked it. I liked it a lot better than the Adam Sandler movie too. I would chose this one to see if it is a toss up for you. It was just like Austin Powers but with an Indian twist. Very funny!! The sexual comedy that Myers is known for was all through this movie. Loved it!

Savage Grace

No need to see this movie unless you are just really board...that is why I watched it. The ending is somewhat nauseating and disturbing. It is a true story so that is what kept me interested...the fact that people actually did these things to each other. Julianne Moore did a really good job playing this horrible character of a woman. She was somewhat reminiscent of her roll in Boogie Nights.

The Incredible Hulk

Boring...it was okay the first hour and then I just lost interest. It just did not serve much of a purpose for me. Don't get me wrong I usually enjoy these comic book movies but this one was a wash.

The Happening

I thought I was going to throw up and I covered my eyes about 65% of the time...I don't recommend this film at all...unless you have a strong stomach and are thick skinned.

You Don't Mess with the Zohan

Very very funny. It was a great date movie to see with Clay. There were so many laughs that by the end you forgot what all you had laughed at.

Sex and The City: The Movie

Pretty good. It was right on par with the show and had the ending we would have all wanted for Carrie and Big. At times it was a little over the top with the romantic dialog. The one thing I learned from the movie is that Jennifer Hudson cannot act!!!! Her character ruined the movie and should have been played by someone with more skill. She did however get a song onto the soundtrack so she double dipped on this one. It is a must see if you are a fan of the show...there is no question about that.

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the crystal skull

I give it a big fat "B". It was good and had lots of action. I am not a fan of Indian Jones and not because they are not good films...I just never got into them that much. There were some cheesy moments as far as the dialog but from what I am told per Clay that is par for the course.

Chronicles Of Narnia: Prince Caspian

It was an enjoyable movie for the whole family...I enjoyed this one better than the first actually. It had to do with fact that the "Ice Witch" was hardly a part of the sequel. I really did not like her character in the first one and did not miss her at all this time around. It was a little long, 2 hours and 10 minutes, but it did not feel like it.

Made Of Honor

Wheewww...the hot Irishmen in this movie are worth it all!!!!!! The movie was really cute and funny, but I am telling you the Irish actors made it good to look at!!!

Saturday, May 3, 2008

Iron Man

Good movie for the whole family. I enjoyed it but I did not think it was awesome. Clay thought it was awesome so it must be a boy thing. When people got hurt in the movie it was made to be funny and that always bothers me...people laughing when someone could really have been hurt. Other than that not complaints.

Mystic India

What a beautiful film. Very colorful and fun to watch. The story was somewhat interesting and educational as always. I think this is one of the better IMAX films only because of all the great sites that you get to see during the film.

Leatherheads

It was okay...on the better side of okay. I found myself daydreaming during some parts of the film but that could have just been me and not the actual film. It was not too long which is always good and I did laugh out loud here and there.

Run Fat Boy Run

Much better than I even thought possible...the reviews I read were so-so but I thought it was great! Very funny and made us all laugh out loud, which is hard to do sometimes. Great date movie with the mushy parts and all!

Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day

I thought this was a great film. It was a simple story but really cute. Wonderful for a quick afternoon flick.

10,000 BC

Don't even bother!!!! I don't even think the kids will like this one.

The Other Boleyn Girl

I love love loved this movie...if you liked Elizabeth the first and the second movie or if you just like the story of King Henry you will LOVE this film...even if you don't know who Henry or Ann are you will still love this movie...I love period pieces so it was right up my alley. It was also a very pretty movie as far as the costumes go.

Cirque Du Soleil: Journey of Man

Awesome!!! Really creative way to view Cirque Du Soleil. This would be a great to find out if you would enjoy one of their performances!! Cheaper too!!

Africa: The Serengeti

I forgot that Clay and saw this last year on Valentine's Day...I do not recommend it. It was worse the second time around. It was way to sad and all the animal had Pete and Charlie's faces!!!!!

Fool's Gold

War Dance

I left wanting to dance!!! This film was sad but it was real. It had some very happy parts and getting to know the characters was cool. It is a documentary about Ugandan children living in a war zone who aspire to win the National Competition for Music and Dance.

There Will Be Blood

Well...Daniel Day Lewis was marvelous, which was the point I guess. The story was drawn out...I assume so we could get the full effect of the ending. You'll see.
